Are Tabletops Waterproof / Impermeable?
Progressive Desk tabletops are moisture-resistant, not fully waterproof. Each material has a different level of protection. Here's what that means in practice for each surface type.
Moisture Resistance by Material
| Material | Surface Protection | Practical Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| MDF Laminate | High-pressure laminate — moisture-resistant | Wipe spills promptly. Edges are more vulnerable than the surface. |
| Bamboo | Clear coat finish | Resistant to light moisture. Avoid prolonged contact with water. |
| Solid Wood | UV varnish — 8 coats | Well-protected. Still wipe spills immediately to protect the finish long-term. |
| Epoxy Resin | Resin surface is non-porous | Resin fill is highly moisture resistant. Wood base edges still need care. |
⚠️ None of our tabletops are rated for wet environments. They are designed for standard office use. Do not place them in areas with regular water exposure (outdoor use, bathrooms, wet labs).
Best Practices
- Wipe spills immediately regardless of material — don't rely on the finish to protect against standing liquid
- Use a coaster under glasses and cups (especially with condensation)
- Avoid placing wet items (plants, humidifiers, wet equipment) directly on the surface
