How to Activate FLTCON Up/Down from a Thermostat or Sensor
This article explains how to activate the up/down buttons on FLTCON-controlled actuators using a thermostat or temperature sensor by replacing or emulating the FLT remote with a relay or microcontroller-based interface.
How it works
- The FLTCON system’s remote sends commands to the control box using four signal lines that represent functions such as "UP", "DOWN", Presets 1–4, and "M".
- To operate the system from a temperature sensor, the sensor (or a controller reading the sensor) must act like the remote by closing the appropriate signal line(s) — effectively acting as a relay to send the UP or DOWN commands.
Required approach
- Use a microcontroller or smart relays in place of the FLT remote to emulate the remote’s signaling.
- Have the temperature sensor drive the microcontroller or the smart relay logic so that when a temperature threshold is reached the system activates the UP or DOWN signal line.
Practical steps
- Identify the four signal input lines on the FLTCON control box that the FLT remote uses for commands (these correspond to UP, DOWN, Presets 1–4, and M).
- Choose an interface method:
- Microcontroller: Use a microcontroller to read the temperature sensor and switch the appropriate signal line(s) to emulate remote button presses.
- Smart relays: Use smart relay modules configured so the temperature sensor or a temperature-controlled switch can trigger the relay that ties into the control lines.
- Program or configure the controller/relays:
- Define the temperature thresholds that should trigger UP and DOWN actions.
- Configure the controller to close the corresponding signal line briefly or for the required duration to mimic a button press.
- Connect the controller/relays to the FLTCON signal lines so that when the controller closes a line it sends the intended command to the control box.
- Test operation carefully by raising and lowering the temperature (or simulating thresholds) and confirming the FLTCON responds with UP and DOWN actions.
