How to Clean and Maintain Your Tabletop

Keeping your Progressive Desk tabletop looking its best is straightforward — but the right approach depends on your surface material. Here's how to clean and care for each type.

MDF Laminate

Laminate surfaces are the easiest to maintain. For daily cleaning, a slightly damp microfiber cloth is all you need. For heavier marks or spills, use a mild dish soap solution.

  • Daily: damp microfiber cloth — wipe and dry immediately
  • Stains: mild dish soap + warm water; wipe and rinse with clean damp cloth
  • Avoid: abrasive sponges, bleach, acetone, or solvent-based cleaners
  • Scratch repair: superficial scratches can be minimized with a laminate repair marker in a matching color

Bamboo

Bamboo has a protective clear coat but is sensitive to excess moisture. Avoid soaking the surface or leaving standing liquid on it.

  • Daily: dry or very lightly dampened cloth
  • Stains: bamboo-safe wood cleaner or diluted white vinegar; wipe dry immediately
  • Avoid: excessive water, harsh chemicals, or steam cleaning
  • Periodically: condition with a bamboo-safe oil (once or twice a year) to maintain the clear coat

Solid Wood

The UV varnish on solid wood tops provides good protection, but wood is sensitive to prolonged moisture and heat.

  • Wipe spills immediately with a soft dry cloth
  • Use a mild soap solution for sticky residue — wipe dry right after
  • Place coasters under hot cups and cold glasses (condensation can damage the finish over time)
  • Keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent fading or warping

Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin tops are generally durable but can yellow slightly with UV exposure over many years. The resin surface can be scratched by sharp or abrasive objects.

  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth; use mild soap for stains
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning pads — they will scratch the resin surface
  • Use a UV-protective cover or place away from windows with direct sun exposure
  • Polishing compound can restore minor scratches to the resin surface
