How to Install a Cable Tray / Wire Management Kit
A cable tray mounts to the underside of your tabletop or crossbeam and holds cables, power bars, and loose wires off the floor. Here's how to install one on your Progressive Desk.
Mounting Location
Most cable trays clamp or screw to the crossbeam or directly to the underside of the tabletop toward the back edge. Choose a position that:
- Is out of reach of your knees at sitting height
- Allows cable runs to drop down the back leg naturally
- Doesn't block access to the control box ports
Installation Steps
1. Position the tray and mark bracket points
Hold the tray under the crossbeam or tabletop underside. Mark the bracket screw holes with a pencil. Keep the tray centered on the frame width.
2. Drill pilot holes (if screw-mount)
Use a drill bit one size smaller than the included screws. Drill slowly — especially into MDF — to avoid cracking. Depth should be slightly less than screw length.
3. Attach bracket and snap in tray
Drive screws through the mounting bracket. Snap or slide the tray body into the brackets. Most trays are removable from the bracket for easy cleaning.
4. Load cables and test clearance
Route your cables and power bar into the tray. Raise the desk to full height and verify nothing catches or pulls. Lower to minimum height and confirm knee clearance.
💡 Weight limit: Most cable trays are rated for 5–11 lbs. A power bar with cables loaded is usually 2–4 lbs — well within range. Don't place heavy tools or equipment in the tray.
