My Desk Moves Slower Than It Should

Progressive Desk frames move at approximately 1.5–2 inches per second under normal load. If your desk is noticeably slower, here's what to check.

Normal Speed Reference

From sitting height (~28″) to standing height (~44″) — a 16″ travel — should take approximately 8–11 seconds under normal load. If it's taking significantly longer, something is affecting motor performance.

Common Causes of Slow Movement

  • Overloaded desk:total weight near or over the rated capacity significantly slows the motors. Remove weight and test again.
  • Debris or dry columns:friction in the leg columns slows travel. Clean the column surfaces and apply silicone lubricant.
  • Cold environment:in cold rooms (below 50°F / 10°C), motor and mechanical components move slower. This is normal — the desk will return to full speed as it warms up.
  • Aging motors:after several years of heavy use, motors may gradually slow. If your desk is over 3 years old and noticeably slower, contact support.

💡 Quick test: Remove all items from the desk and move it empty through its full range. If it moves at normal speed empty but slowly with items, the issue is load-related. If it's still slow empty, it's mechanical or motor-related.
