My Desk Stops Moving Mid-Travel
A desk that starts moving but stops before reaching the preset or height limit is almost always being interrupted by the anti-collision system or a cable snag. Here's how to find the cause.
Anti-Collision Trigger
The most common cause is the anti-collision system detecting resistance — a cable pulling taut, a loose item touching the frame, or furniture in the path. When resistance exceeds the sensitivity threshold, the desk stops and may reverse slightly.
To check: watch the desk closely as it moves. Does it stop at the same point every time? If yes, something at that height is creating resistance — check for cable snags, drawers catching, or items hanging below the tabletop.
Cable Snag — Most Common Cause
- Raise the desk slowly to the height where it stops and look underneath for cables pulling tight
- A cable running directly from a wall outlet to a device on the desk without enough slack will pull taut at a specific height
- Fix: route cables down the leg spine with a loop at the base (12–15″ slack)
Adjust Anti-Collision Sensitivity
If you've confirmed there is no obstruction or cable snag but the desk still stops, the collision sensitivity may be set too high (22 lbs). Increase the threshold to 33 lbs and test again. See the collision detection article for the adjustment procedure.
Check for an Error Code After Stopping
When the desk stops mid-travel, check the handset display immediately. If it shows E0L, the anti-collision triggered. If it shows another code, see the error codes guide for that specific code.
