What Tabletop Materials Are Available?
Progressive Desk offers four tabletop material types: MDF laminate, bamboo, solid wood, and epoxy resin. Each has different aesthetics, durability, and care requirements. Here's what to know about each.
MDF Laminate
MDF laminate is the most popular and affordable option. The surface is a high-pressure laminate applied over an MDF core, available in a wide range of colors (use the free swatch kit to see colors in person before buying). The surface is moisture-resistant and easy to wipe clean with mild cleaners.
- Wide color selection — order a free swatch kit to compare
- Good scratch resistance for everyday office use
- Moisture-resistant but not waterproof — wipe spills immediately
- Most affordable option
Bamboo
Bamboo tops are made from compressed bamboo strips, finished with a clear coat for protection. Bamboo is harder than many hardwoods, giving it good dent resistance. It has a warm, natural look that suits home office environments.
- Hard and dent-resistant
- Eco-friendly and sustainable material
- Finished with a clear protective coat
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight — can lighten or warp over time
Solid Wood
Available in walnut and ash, Progressive Desk's solid wood tops are premium options with natural grain variation. Each top is finished with a UV varnish (8 coats) for protection against spills, scratches, and UV exposure. Available in 60×30″ and 72×30″ sizes.
Epoxy Resin
Epoxy resin tops are unique statement pieces — the solid wood base is filled with colored resin (blue or black) that flows into the natural grain and cracks of the wood. Available in 60×30″ and 72×30″ sizes. These tops come without a grommet hole.
Epoxy tops have no grommet option. If you need cable pass-through, plan to drill your own hole or use surface cable management instead.
